Proposed bills target hazing, bullying on campus
CHEYENNE -- Legislators next month will get a chance to strike a blow against hazing and bullying students. "...During the last session, the House Education Committee shot down an anti-bullying bill 8-1 largely because it required police investigations. Rep. Stephen Watt, R-Rock Springs, a deputy sheriff who works in the public schools, has filed a new version -- House Bill 48 -- for this session that doesn't mention police involvement but concentrates on the duty of school districts to develop their own policies and procedures to investigate and discipline students deemed guilty of bullying or intimidation and to protect the victims. If the bill passes, each school district must develop anti-bullying policies, and the state Department of Education must develop a model policy for all K-12 public schools."
